Servicemembers'
Civil Relief Act
A NorthLegal Webinar
Recorded May 31, 2007
Program
Description
What mistake do many (most?) credit unions make
that puts them at risk of legal action and adverse publicity for failing
to comply with the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act?
What
mistake do many (most?) credit unions make that causes them to believe
they are required to confer certain benefits that the SCRA doesn't
really require?
Most
credit unions understand that the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act
(previously, the "Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act") requires
them to lower certain loan interest rates to 6 percent, and limits
their ability to obtain default judgments against those serving in
the armed forces. But what else does this law require? It
is important -- in fact, it is absolutely necessary -- that credit
unions understand the details of this law,
both in order to provide proper respect and benefits to those who serve
and in order to protect against litigation.
This program, conducted on May
31, 2007, by credit union attorney Eric North, provides credit union
professionals with information about:
• |
Which
debts SCRA covers, and which it doesn't cover. |
| • |
What
protection the SCRA gives to dependants of military personnel. |
| • |
The
effect the SCRA has on obligations that were incurred while the
member was already in active service. |
| • |
The
new HUD rule intended to make certain service members are aware
of their rights under the SCRA |
| • |
How
the SCRA limits the credit union's right to enforce security interests. |
| • |
What
happens when the member leaves active service. |
and
much more!
Don't
miss this opportunity to make sure your credit union is in full compliance
with this often-misunderstood law!
NOTE: This program is intended for employees of credit unions. If you are
