Bankruptcy
102:
The Automatic Stay
(For Beginners and Experts)
A NorthLegal Webinar
(Originally Presented May 21, 2009)
(Rerecorded June 8, 2009) (131
min.)
| |
It's one
of the most important concepts in bankruptcy, but it's also
one of the most misunderstood.
Most creditors have
heard of "the automatic stay," but myths about what it
prohibits — and even about when it begins and ends — abound.
And those misunderstandings can result in sanctions for those
who err in one direction, and lost opportunties to collect
for those who err in the other direction!
While it's essential that at least one person at each lending
institution understand the full scope of the automatic stay, it's
also important that everyone who may interact with someone who
is bankrupt has at least a basic understanding of it. |
